Although I do sometimes work in larger formats, I am currently specializing in paintings and monotypes that measure under 4” x 4”. I think that the reason I’m so drawn toward creating these miniature works has to do with all of the storybooks and art books I used to enjoy looking at as a child. Most of the pictures in those books were small, and yet I could see whole worlds inside of them.

I especially loved the art of Arthur Rackham, Tasha Tudor, Mary Blair and E. H. Shepard. I am also a huge fan of Charles Reid, Ian Roberts, Hiroshi Matsumoto, Natsuo Ikegami, John Singer Sargent, and too many others to mention.

ACEO stands for “Art Cards, Editions and Originals”, a sort of trading card for artists and collectors. Always 2.5” x 3.5” (6.35 cm x 8.9 cm) either horizontally or vertically.

My other favorite size is 1” x 1” (25mm x25mm), as in my “One Inch Worlds” Collection.

I use many mediums and techniques in my work, including watercolor, ink, oil paint, acrylics, pencils, pens, charcoal — anything I can create an image with is fair game.
